Peer Pressure

(Me, in the middle in 1995)

Apparently running is the cool thing to do now.

It seems as though everyone is training for 5Ks, half marathons, marathons, etc.

I am starting to feel the pressure.

Peer Pressure

"I'm running a 5K next month, you should come run with me."
"I'm training for a half marathon. It's the greatest thing ever."
"Anyone who is anyone is running a marathon."
"I just had a baby last week, but I'm still going to run this weekend."

I used to be a runner. I was pretty good circa 1997. Running is part of my history.
Dan and I met on the high school cross country team for crying out loud.

I don't think I've run a 5K since though. To tell you the truth, I don't know if I want to. I am terrified of the first two weeks.
The burning in my lungs, the shin splints, the lactic acid burning in my thighs.
Not my idea of a good time.
I might succumb to the pressure if there was a feasible way for me to train. And unlike some of ya'll, I can't run 3.1 miles without training.
I would collapse into a pile of dry heaves if I tried to run around my block right now.

I'm not motivated enough to run early in the morning. I like/need my sleep too much.

I can't run during the day without getting a babysitter. I can't take them with me because I'm not strong enough to push both boys in a running stroller.

Seriously, that's nearly 100 pounds!

I don't want to run alone because honestly, the only reason I ever run is social.

I can't run at night because by the time Dan gets home to watch the boys it's dark. And it's not safe for little 'ole me to run in the dark. Even here in Happy Valley.

I don't own a treadmill so I can't run at home.

And I really can't justify spending money I don't have to go to a smelly gym to run.
So, unless you have some grand solution to my problem stop asking me to run with you.
Leave me and my lazy butt in peace.

LOL! That is hilarious! I am considering on walking/running a 5K, but it is not because I want to be cool (because pretty much, I HATE running! It is just that the 5K is for a cause called "Running With Angels" and you can either walk or run, so I will be pushing a stroller, maybe doing a little bit of jogging. I know, everyone at work is like "oh, I just ran 8 miles in 30 minutes" or something like that and I kind of want to gag! Glad to know someone else feels the same way!

Hey, i am not asking you to go running, just a little bike ride. Come on you can do it. Plus we don't go early and you don't need a babysitter. Sounds like this should work!!

OH MY GOSH!! I am so happy I've learned how to do my hair since then. That picture is not pretty!! (of me) I have an idea a.k.a. a grand soluation ~ because I need a running partner to get me out of the 'smelly gym' we could run together at night after Dan gets home. It's staying lighter later now. Remember running at 5am together, year round, sometimes in the snow. Those were good times! We could just switch it up and run at night...how late does Dan get home? SPLENDID IDEA! I'm surprised your post didn't say, "Nikki want to go running together?!" LOL =)

Our ward (which is right by hers) is doing the same thing. It must be where we live.
