Summer Goals- Report

Several months ago I posted about my goals for the summer. I know you are just dying to hear how we did, right?! Not really. Well, for my own sake, I'm going to hold myself accountable.

Tyson's Goals
1. Lose his training wheels.

Half way through the summer Tyson left his bike behind Dan's car. Luckily, when Dan ran over the bike he only hit one of the training wheels. The result was a very bent out of shape training wheel that was no longer anywhere near the ground. Tyson didn't notice at first. So he started riding his bike as usual. As it turns out he wasn't even using the training wheels anymore. They were more of a "Dumbo's magic feather." Once Tyson realized that he didn't need them anymore he begged me to take them off his bike.

2. Improve his reading skills

My original goal was to have Tyson read a book everyday of the summer. This only lasted through June. By July we totally slacked off on "homework." We didn't slack off on our Book of Mormon reading though. We continued plugging our way through all summer. We were even able to finish Alma! Tyson read at least one verse each night. Even with this limited reading practice Tyson's reading skills have improved! I haven't heard how he did on his first reading assessment in school, but I can tell he's reading much better than he was a few months ago.

Preston's Goals
1. Potty Training

It's been tough, but we did it! Preston is in underwear full-time (except nighttime). He still has occational accidents, but he can easily stay dry all day and often tells me when he needs to go. I am completely amazed. He seems like such a big kid now.

Nolan's Goals
1. Rolling over

Check. Rolling over is not a problem for my little man. The problem is getting him to stop rolling over, especially during diaper changes. It is seriously a battle every time. He has also discovered that rolling over is a good mode of transportation. He can cross a room pretty quickly when he wants to.
2. Sitting up

Check. He's been sitting up for a couple months now. And he is really good at it. The problem is that he doesn't like to sit. He would much rather stand up, or lay on his belly. Getting him to bend in half is a challenge. When I try to set him down the on the floor he will lock his little body up, stiff as a board. The little punk.
3. Eating Baby Food

Nolan took to baby food a lot slower than my other boys did. It isn't that he didn't like it, he just struggled with keeping it in his mouth. His little tongue kept pushing everything back out. He is getting better now though. He loves to eat and can put away quite a bit of food. If only I could keep it out of his ears. . .

My Goals

1. Finish 2009 Blog Book
Nope. I think I spent an hour on my blog book all summer. This may be a better winter goal than a summer goal.

2. Finish 2009 Family Scrapbook
Yes! I finally finished my 41 page scrapbook for 2009. Now I'm putting the finishing touches on Tyson's and Preston's 2009 scrapbooks. I have the layouts done, I just need to tweak some titles and journalling. Soon I'll be able to dive into my 2010 books.
3. Organize Office and Storage Room
Yes and No. Yes, Dan and I organized the storage room and the office at one point this summer. But they both need to be done again. It's a never ending battle. I think the office is worse now than it was at the beginning of the summer.

4. Run at least two 5Ks
Nope. Sadly I only ran one 5K this summer. After the first one I totally chickened out. My knees started hurting, which made me feel old. (I don't like to feel old.) And it became too much of a strain on my family to train. There was never a good time to run when I didn't feel like I was neglecting my kids. Now that Tyson is in school full-time I can think about running again. That is if my knees don't hurt. :P
The boys did really well with their goals. I wish I could say the same for myself.
