Send in the Clowns

Last week I said to Tyson, "If I were you, I'd make sure my homework and chores were done today."
Tyson: Why?
M: Oh, I don't know. What if someone invited you to do something cool and you didn't get to go because your chores weren't done?
T: Huh? Are we doing something fun tonight?
M: I don't know. Maybe you should do your chores so you can find out.

(Later, after his chores and homework were done.)

T: Mom, are we doing something fun tonight?
M: I can't tell you. It's not my surprise.
T: Whose surprise is it?
M: You will just have to wait until after dinner.
T: Are we doing something fun after dinner?
M: Maybe. You will just have to wait and see.

(Later, after dinner)

T: Mom! Tell me! What are we doing?
M: I can't tell you. It's not my surprise. But I bet someone cool is going to come over.
T: Who is it?!
M: You will just have to wait and see.

(Time ticked by slowly.)

M: Tyson, you'd better put your shoes on.
T: Why? Are we going somewhere?
M: I don't know. Why don't you see who's here.

(Enter Uncle Sheeby and Aunt Breanne.)

T: Are you my surprise?
Sheeby: Maybe. Did you get your homework and chores done?
T: Yes
S: Great! Do you want to go to the Circus?!
T: YES!!! Are we really going to the circus?!
S: Yep!
