Washington DC: Day 4

We slept in that morning, packed a little, and got a quick breakfast before walking down the street to the National Zoo, the only item on our agenda.

I had two reasons for wanting to go to the Zoo. First, I wanted to see the Giant Pandas. But more importantly I wanted to see my darling friend Jill.

Have you every had a really good friend? Someone who has been there for you through hard times? Someone who has made you laugh and cry? Someone you have known for years, but never met in person? I have friends like that. And one of them is Jill. She lives in Virginia. She was one of the reasons we decided to go to Washington DC in the first place. She drove hours with her two young boys to meet us at the zoo for the day. It was one of the highlights of my trip.

After a week away from my children is was so fun to be with her boys, who are the same ages as Tyson and Preston. It also made me excited to see my kids again.

Oh, and there were pandas too, although they were less thrilled to see me.

After the zoo, we rushed back to our hotel to check out. We rode the metro for the last time to the airport. And then killed time until our flight left. And nine hours later we were home.

There were so many things we didn't get to do. There were so many things we just didn't have time to see. I'd love to go back someday.
